Neck Profiles

Modern “C” Shape: Thin profile, easy/fast playing, usually 9.5” radius, the Fender gold standard for the past 25 years. These necks have an ultra-comfortable flattened oval shape fit for just about any style (particularly modern rock). They are not cut as deep as “U” or “V” shaped profiles.  Fender issues-American Standard, American Special, Mexican Standard

Soft “V” Shape: 50s profile, fit to shape of palm, almost always 1-piece maple, usually 7.25” radius, retro feel. Accidentally crafted in the Fender factory back in the 50s, these necks are the perfect fit for players who lay down chops with their thumb hanging over the edge of the fingerboard. The profile of choice for Eric Clapton & Jimmie Vaughan. Fender issues- '50s Classic Strat, Eric Clapton Strat, American Deluxe "V"

“U” Shape: Large rounded profile, great for larger hands, usually 7.25” radius, "chunky" feel. Often referred to as “baseball bat” necks they are often featured on vintage/reissue Telecasters. This is a match made in heaven for players with larger stature or those who anchor their thumb on the back or side of the neck. Some believe the extra mass also improves tone/sustain.  Fender issues- GE Smith Tele, '69 Thinline Tele,  '70s Classic Strat
